Jennileen Joseph
Herbalist and Ayurvedic Practitioner
February 16th, 2022
11 a.m. ~ 12:30 p.m.
Jennileen Joseph is an Herbalist and Ayurvedic practitioner. She believes strongly in the idea that individual health is never really individual. She encourages those she works with to understand that individual wellness can never be separated from the dynamics of power and access, as well as the story of culture, people, and land.
A culturally nomadic person, Jennileen brings her understandings from being a Rromani* woman into how she approaches all aspects of herbalism and Ayurveda, weaving in land acknowledgement and stewardship in practice through active relationships with local native communities, as well as the global diaspora Rromani nation.
Jennileen received her bachelor's degree from New York University in US History: Origins and Effects of Intergenerational Trauma. She is a graduate of the Clinical Herbalism I and II programs, as well as the Ayurvedic Studies program, at the University of New Mexico. She believes strongly in mentorship and has apprenticed with Ayurvedic practitioner Sonia Masocco and Ecological Herbalist Dara Saville for a combined 4000 hours.
Before launching herself as a holistic practitioner, Jennileen worked as a domestic for over 30 years. She is the founder and former director of the Massachusetts Alliance of Professional Nannies and co-founder of the Massachusetts Coalition for Domestic Workers, where she was part of a movement to pass the Massachusetts Domestic Workers BIll of Rights.
Jennileen is the founder of Sastimos Holistic Health, where she currently sees clients and guides one on one apprentices. She also teaches Herbal Medicine and Food as Medicine at the Albuquerque School of Healing Arts.
